In 1999, Pastor Paul Sosono was overseeing a dozen small congregations along the southern border of Malawi. He became familiar with Advent Christian doctrine through an article written by the wife of one of our American pastors.
Pastor Paul initiated contact with us and soon organized his congregations under the name “New Hope Advent Christian Church”. His ministry reached into neighboring Mozambique, so churches from the two countries were united into one conference.
Africa Europe Area Director Frank Jewett visited Pastor Paul in 2001. At the 2002 ACGC triennial convention, Malawi was identified officially as an AC mission field.
Pastor Paul Sosono died in 2006. His brother Samuel Sosono was elected President of the Malawi/ Mozambique AC Conference*, where he serves today.
*UPDATE: In June 2011, the AC General Conference voted Mozambique as an official Conference. Malawi and Mozambique are now separate Conferences.
