Dorothy Pierce Dean
Sept. 1, 1927 - Nov. 1, 2010.
On November 1, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. my dear wife, Dorothy May Pierce Dean, ended her earthly pilgrimage in Memorial Hospital at Jacksonville, Florida in the eighty-fourth year of her life. Three of our children (Paul, Nathan and Bethany) and I were at her side. She died in full confidence that whether in life or in death, she was not her own but belonged to her faithful Savior Jesus Christ, who with his precious blood had fully satisfied for all her sins and redeemed her from all the power of the evil one.

This year her health had appeared good and she continued her usual schedule of activities until a short period of weakness in mid-October led to her hospitalization. Her final illness (apparently a form of leukemia) had appeared suddenly and it claimed her quickly. She suffered consciously only one of her five days in the hospital before the Lord mercifully gave sleep to the one we loved. As sunset approached on November 4th we laid her to rest in Bixler Gardens East near our home at Dowling Park, FL. Her children and I confess that our loss is almost greater than we can bear and that sadness reaches into our souls. Yet we do not sorrow as those who have no hope; we know that shall see her anew when our Lord Jesus returns to this earth.

Dottie was born in Porter, Maine on September 2, 1927as fifth of the eight children of LeRoy Samuel Pierce and his wife, Beatrice Sawyer. A graduate of Porter High School (1945) and Berkshire Christian College (1951), she later did specialized studies at North Adams State College. In addition to serving at my side in pastorates at Danville, P. Q., Canada; Springfield and Southfield, MA, and Pacific, MO she was an important part of my ministry at Berkshire Christian College and Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. Dottie gave birth to our five children and later taught in the Lenox, MA elementary schools for 15 years. After our retirement to Advent Christian Village in Dowling Park, she taught with me in India, Japan, the Philippines and Mexico.

Our family has lost our closest friend, one whose love and encouragement can never be fully recounted. Her husband, children (Dwight, David, Paul, Nathan, and Bethany), sisters (Marjory and Kay), brother (Dwight), 15 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren are saddened, but not broken. We heartily thank God for sending this godly woman to enrich our lives and draw us closer to Christ. The Lord has given, and the Lord has taken away. Please join us in blessing the Name of the Lord.
- David A. Dean
